She's the Expert

Canny Comms is joining forces with ADS Group to launch 'She's the Expert', a media training programme for women working across the defence and security sector.

Kicking off with a free half-day media training session, on 2 March 2026, taking place in London, the initiative aims to increase female representation on panels, in the media and in expert public debate. 

The session will equip participants with the tools and knowledge, as well as the confidence, to speak with authority on their areas of expertise. The programme will include mock panel practice, media training and ongoing support to help create lasting, visible change across the sector. 

Lindsay Compton, Chief Executive Officer of Canny Comms, said: “The expertise is there. The women are there. But you can’t be what you can’t see. Panels, media slots and expert discussions in our industry are still overwhelmingly male. That visibility gap matters because it stops women believing they belong here. But it also creates a confidence gap.

"Brilliant, technically sharp professionals don't put themselves forward because they don’t see themselves reflected in those public forums. This training is about changing that. It’s about giving women the practical tools and confidence to step onto those platforms and own them. They’ve absolutely earned the right to be there, and our industry desperately needs their voices.”

The session will form part of a longer-term programme, in partnership with ADS, designed to build on skills and knowledge gained from the initial session in March and offering continued support to develop confidence, capability and visibility over the long term.
